  2. reproductive ability, characterized by 
  3. menstruation (see menstrual cycle) becoming 
  4. irregular and eventually ceasing. The onset 
  5. is at about the age of 50, but varies 
  6. greatly. Menopause is usually uneventful, but 
  7. some women suffer from complications such as 
  8. flushing, excessive bleeding, and nervous 
  9. disorders.
